Partiality is a non-Christian behavior

I heard a wonderful story from my uncle, as we were in discussion. Following is the story.

There were two brothers who had two sons. One brother had a sugar cane in his hand. His own son and his nephew came to him and said, we want to enjoy this tasty cane. He said, ok my sons, than he applied some force to break the sugar cane into two halves. Infect the upper half of sugar cane taste nice but the bottom half taste much better.

Now, He was holding two halves of sugar cane into his hands and before him two boys were eagerly waiting for the distribution. His left hand was holding the upper half (less tasty) and the bottom half (More tasty) was in the right hand.

His own son however was standing to the left side, so he crossed his right hand to the left side towards his son and his left hand towards his nephew who was standing to the right side of him. His intention was to give the best part of sugar cane to his son.

When, suddenly, he noticed that His brother was watching him. His brother said, if before breaking this sugar cane you had turn the best part of it to your son and then broke it and without crossing your hands, give to your son, your partiality didn't appear to me, but now they way you behaved has given me and your nephew's heart, a “feeling of partiality”, Therefore, Now keep your hands crossed forever because I will not forget this.

My mind instantly recall the verse (James 2:9) But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

Dear Friends, we should remember that our actions are being observed by others. What we do and how we do really impact others. Our small actions can win the heart of others and our great actions can be ignored by others because of small mistakes.

Many of us are having a circle of friends and close relatives. They know we follow “Christ” but they expect a behavior of “being a Christian” from us.

Christ didn’t show partiality when he was on his tour to the earth. He preached to the Jews and gentiles both. He did miracles for Jews and gentiles both. God didn’t show partiality to the human. Bible says his Sun shines over the righteous and sinner. His rain came to the land of righteous and sinner as well. Holy Spirit touched the Jews and gentiles equally.

So why we are bias in our lives. We do we prefer on relative over the other. Why do we only greet the one who greet us back? Why don’t we greet the one, who don’t like us and may be in turn would not greet us.

These things do matter. I think practicing the gospel is more effective than preaching it. We can attract more people to the LORD if we show equal treatment to everybody.

“I tried to explain what I am thinking today.”

God bless you

Beautiful post Mugheez!  And so true. It is a very practical example of how we sometimes placed our own loved ones needs and desires above those of others. We should in fact be in communication with God-central at all times to guage what He wants from us. But for those times when we are not really in direct communication, we need to know what the right behaviour in the situation should be, by studying His Word. This one moment in this man's life, can now change the rest of his and the nephew's life for the worse. Not a good outcome. Therefore, we can also learn from this that every moment and every decision we make, really counts!
